Employee Engagement

The Employee Side of the HumanSigma Equation

HumanSigma combines the power of two Gallup concepts: employee and customer engagement. Our HumanSigma approach provides leaders with the means to reduce the variance in performance across organisational units.

Research published by Gallup and others has shown that engaged employees are more productive employees. The research also proves that engaged employees are more profitable, more customer-focused, safer, and more likely to withstand temptations to leave. Many have long suspected the connection between an employee's level of engagement and the level and quality of his or her performance. Our research has laid the matter to rest.

Maximizing Employee Engagement With the Q 12

Gallup's rigorous research has identified 12 questions that measure employee engagement and link powerfully to relevant business outcomes, including retention, productivity, profitability, customer engagement, and safety. These questions -- the Q 12 -- measure dimensions that leaders, managers, and employees can influence.

Our research reveals that most workers are not engaged in -- or are actively disengaged from -- their work. As a result, companies are struggling to develop engaged workforces.

What can organisations do to build workplaces that foster higher levels of employee engagement? Q 12 is Gallup's process for organisations that seek to improve their financial performance through a more engaged workforce. Our programs offer integrated solutions including research-based measurement, coursework, and strategic advisory services that improve workgroup -- and organisational -- performance.

Organisations using Q 12 programs improve productivity levels, develop higher levels of customer engagement, increase retention of their best employees, and improve profitability while reducing on-the-job accident rates and healthcare costs.

The Q 12 Database

Gallup maintains one of the world's most comprehensive databases linking employee engagement to relevant business outcomes like retention, productivity, profitability, customer engagement, and safety. We also collect information on key work force demographics, including length of service, function, level, status, for-profit/non-profit, exempt/non-exempt, and union/non-union.

We update our database annually, which enables our clients to benchmark their organization's employee engagement levels against data collected in 45 languages from:

  • 5.4 million employees
  • 620,000 workgroups
  • 504 organisations
  • 16 major industries
  • 7 major world regions
  • 137 countries
